Longtime recipients of Midwest Farmowner, a newsletter published by First Mid Ag Services, have been familiar with our staff and offices in Bloomington, Decatur, Kankakee, Peoria and Springfield, previously Soy Capital Ag Services offices. With the recent transition to First Mid Ag Services, we have added another regional Ag Services office in Mattoon.
While First Mid has been involved in professional farm management since the 1960s, the Mattoon office experienced considerable growth with the acquisition of Ron Pierce Farm Management in 2018. With that addition, the Mattoon office now manages approximately 43,000 acres throughout Illinois, with the majority of those acres located in Coles, Douglas, Moultrie, Shelby, Cumberland, and Clark Counties. The Mattoon staff consists of four farm managers: Eric Schumacher, Ron Pierce, Austin Hornstein, and Cory Kauffman. Operations and administrative support for the office are provided by Kelly Esker, Bonnie Heaton, and Caroline Elam.
Brian Thompson, President of First Mid Ag Services, stated, “In addition to farm management services, our farm managers are all Illinois licensed real estate brokers, providing farmland sale and acquisition services. Our licensed brokers have the knowledge and experience to handle real estate transactions for a variety of markets through both private treaty listings and farmland auctions.”
The expertise of the Mattoon staff also extends to farmland appraisal services. In the Mattoon office, Eric Schumacher and Cory Kauffman are Associate Appraiser Trainees in Illinois and work with a local supervising appraiser in preparing reports for clients. To round out the list of services, the Mattoon office also has licensed insurance agents providing federal and private crop insurance to landowners and tenant farmers.
“We’re excited to add the expertise of the Mattoon staff to our already strong Ag Services team. The addition of this group has helped us build a stronger network of talent to better serve all of our Ag Services customers.”
