Volunteer Spotlight – Abbey Edwards

Community is at the heart of who we are. Meet Abbey and see how she’s making an impact.

First Mid is honored to recognize Abbey Edwards, Benefits Specialist, as our Volunteer Spotlight for December 2025. Abbey is committed to supporting local community organizations through volunteerism, consistently demonstrating our core values.

What causes are you passionate about supporting through volunteerism? The Rock County 4-H Program has been one of my favorite programs I’ve supported over the years. As a third-generation 4-H’er, I spent 13 years as a youth member and now have the privilege of serving as an adult volunteer, watching my daughter and other young people grow through this incredible program. 4-H taught me so many valuable life skills and helped me develop leadership abilities that I still use today. I’m grateful for the foundation it gave me, and now I enjoy sharing those experiences to help young people become confident, well-rounded individuals who will be the strong leaders of tomorrow. I’m also fortunate to volunteer with my home church, Amazing Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. One of our most rewarding community events is our annual fall pumpkin patch food drive, where community members bring non-perishable food items in exchange for a free pumpkin. All donations go to the Rockton Food Pantry, helping to support local families in need. Both organizations reflect what I value most – giving back, building community, and helping others grow.

What would you tell others who are thinking about volunteering? Do it – you’ll be so glad you took the time to give back! Whether the cause is big or small, your efforts can truly make an impact. Just last month, while delivering Meals on Wheels, I met a new client whose smile and gratitude when receiving his first meal completely made my day. What felt like a simple task for me made a big difference for him, and it reminded me how meaningful these moments can be.

What are ways you think others can get involved? There are countless ways to get involved, especially during the holidays when support is needed most. Participating in a food, coat, or toy drive is a quick and easy place to start – even a single donation can brighten someone’s season. Another great option is delivering food to shut-ins; programs like Meals on Wheels are always looking for extra helping hands. Whether you give time, resources, or both, every act of kindness helps strengthen your community.

Congratulations, Abbey, on being featured as a Volunteer Spotlight! We are honored to showcase the impact you have on your community. First Mid is proud to support your volunteer efforts.
