First Mid is honored to recognize Duane Gulley, VP, Regional Retail Loan Manager in Mt. Vernon, IL, as our Volunteer Spotlight for October 2026. Duane is committed to supporting local community organizations through volunteerism, consistently demonstrating our core values.
What causes are you passionate about supporting through volunteerism? I’m passionate about supporting youth and have always enjoyed being involved with kids, especially through coaching and helping them learn, grow, and build confidence. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to help coach youth baseball, softball, flag football, and basketball. Now, I get to coach my grandkids, which makes the experience even more meaningful. Giving my time to something I truly enjoy while making a positive impact on young people is incredibly rewarding.
What would you tell others who are thinking about volunteering? Find something you enjoy and care about. Volunteering doesn’t feel like an obligation when you’re doing something you’re passionate about. Find a cause or activity that fits your interests, get involved, and have fun with it. You might be surprised by the difference you can make while doing something you enjoy.
What are ways you think others can get involved? Start with something you already enjoy or care about. Look for local organizations, schools, youth programs, churches, or community events that could use an extra hand. Even giving a small amount of your time can make a difference, and it’s a great way to build connections within your community.
Congratulations, Duane, on being featured as a Volunteer Spotlight! We are honored to showcase the impact you have on your community. First Mid is proud to support your volunteer efforts.
