First Mid is honored to recognize Kelsey Johnson, Personal Banking Relationship Manager in Galesburg, IL, as our Volunteer Spotlight for June 2026. Kelsey is committed to supporting local community organizations through volunteerism, consistently demonstrating our core values.
What causes are you passionate about supporting through volunteerism? I’m passionate about giving back in ways that strengthen and connect my community. I currently serve on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity of Knox County, IL, where I also serve as Chair of the Family Selection & Support Committee and contribute to the Finance and Development Committees. Through this work, I’ve seen firsthand the pride and stability affordable housing can bring to families. I’m also a Chamber Ambassador with the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce, which has allowed me to build relationships with local business owners and support community growth. In addition, I serve on the committee for Taste of Galesburg, one of my favorite traditions that brings people together. Volunteering has shown me the real impact community involvement can have — not just in giving back, but in building a stronger, more connected community for everyone.
What would you tell others who are thinking about volunteering? Start with something you care about. When you’re passionate about a cause, it doesn’t feel like an obligation – it becomes something you genuinely enjoy. There are so many ways to get involved whether through your child’s school or activities, local nonprofits, or community events. Even a small amount of time can make a meaningful difference for both others and yourself.
What are ways you think others can get involved? A great first step is simply starting a conversation. Talk to people in your community, connect with local organizations, or reach out to your local chamber of commerce to learn about opportunities. Many groups are always looking for support and there are flexible ways to get involved based on your interests and availability. Sometimes all it takes is asking, “How can I help?”
Congratulations, Kelsey, on being featured as a Volunteer Spotlight! We are honored to showcase the impact you have on your community. First Mid is proud to support your volunteer efforts.
