First Mid is honored to recognize Samantha Lewis, Merchant Financing Specialist, as our Volunteer Spotlight for January 2025. Samantha is committed to supporting local community organizations through volunteerism, consistently demonstrating our core values.
What causes are you passionate about supporting through volunteerism? I’m passionate about supporting causes that uplift individuals in my community and create meaningful experiences for everyone involved. I’ve had the privilege of volunteering with several organizations dedicated to making a difference. My journey began with Bowl for Kids’ Sake, where I help raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters. This year, I served as Worker’s Co-Chairman for Special Olympics Family Fest, working to create a welcoming and supportive environment for the Athletes. Most recently, I coached a youth soccer team sponsored by First Mid, witnessing the positive impact sports can have on a young person’s confidence and development.
What would you tell others who are thinking about volunteering? Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, build lasting relationships, and feel a sense of purpose. Your time and efforts have a greater impact than you’d expect, bringing rewards in helping others and fostering personal growth beyond your comfort zone. I’d encourage anyone thinking about volunteering to take that first step – the experience will be worth it!
What are ways you think others can get involved? Getting involved doesn’t always have to mean committing large amounts of time or effort. Even small contributions can have a meaningful significance. By starting with something that aligns with your interests, you’ll likely find the experience fulfilling and rewarding. Ultimately, volunteering is about finding ways to give back and recognizing that even a few hours of your time can make a big difference. Exploring various opportunities and finding where you can make an impact are great ways to give back to your community.
