First Mid is honored to recognize Travis Terrill, Special Assets Officer, as our Volunteer Spotlight for June 2025. Travis is committed to supporting local community organizations through volunteerism, consistently demonstrating our core values.
What causes are you passionate about supporting through volunteerism? I am passionate about supporting youth in my community, especially through my work as a coach for the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). Volunteering with NASP allows me to work with with large, diverse groups of students. On the range, we focus on more than technique—we teach important values like focus, self-control, discipline, and patience. These skills are powerful tools that support success in the classroom and beyond, and it’s extremely meaningful to help young people build that foundation.
What would you tell others who are thinking about volunteering? I would say volunteering is incredibly rewarding—and a lot of fun, too. There’s nothing quite like making a positive impact in your community and helping shape the next generation. Volunteering doesn’t have to be difficult or take up a lot of time. Even small efforts can make a big difference. I encourage others to find a cause they care about and get involved. Chances are, they’ll be glad they did.
What are ways you think others can get involved? There are countless ways to get involved—it all starts with finding a cause you care about, then doing some research. Check social media, read your local newspaper, or reach out to local groups directly. Schools, clubs, charitable organizations, churches, and others are always in need of volunteers. If you don’t want to work events, professional skills in communications, event planning, and administrative support are also in demand. No matter your interests or abilities, there’s a place for you to make a difference.
