First Mid is honored to recognize Dustin Baker, Information Technology Systems Manager, as our Volunteer Spotlight for August 2025. Dustin is committed to supporting local community organizations through volunteerism, consistently demonstrating our core values.
What causes are you passionate about supporting through volunteerism? Supporting youth development and education is vital to local communities. In recent years, I’ve spent time volunteering as a coach and director for our local recreational youth sports program and serving as a board member for a regional youth sports league. I believe giving kids opportunities to learn, grow, and build confidence through teamwork and mentorship is one of the most impactful things we can do as a community.
What would you tell others who are thinking about volunteering? Start by choosing an opportunity that genuinely speaks to you. When your volunteer work aligns with your passions, it feels more rewarding and even energizing. No matter how much time you can give, every effort counts and makes a difference.
What are ways you think others can get involved? Look at what’s happening in your community and connect with local organizations—you might be surprised how much they need volunteers. Ask questions about their needs, be open to trying different roles, and don’t hesitate just because your time is limited. Bring a friend, family member, or coworker along and share the experience together.
