First Mid is honored to recognize Jessica Vail, Mortgage Loan Operations Specialist III, as our Volunteer Spotlight for November 2025. Jessica is committed to supporting local community organizations through volunteerism, consistently demonstrating our core values.
What causes are you passionate about supporting through volunteerism? I am passionate about supporting causes that bring positivity to the youth in my community. Whether it’s serving as the head baseball coach for my son’s city league team, helping raise funds through the school’s fundraising committee and PTA, or coaching the middle school softball team, I love being involved in activities that encourage and uplift kids. I truly believe that teaching young people how to stay positive through challenges is one of the best ways to make a lasting impact—helping them grow not only as athletes or students but as confident, resilient individuals.
What would you tell others who are thinking about volunteering? Don’t wait to be asked—just take that first step! Simply saying, “Hey, let me know if you need help!” or “I can help with whatever you need,” can open the door to great opportunities. Most of the time, people will gladly accept your offer, and before you know it, you’ll be making a difference. Volunteering is also a wonderful way to get to know other adults and parents in your community while building connections and friendships along the way.
What are ways you think others can get involved? Start thinking about areas that truly interest you. For me, I enjoy helping with the activities my son is involved in, which made it easy to find ways to contribute. It all started when he began at a new school and I simply asked, “Where can I help out?” From there, opportunities naturally came together, and it’s been a rewarding experience ever since. Sometimes all it takes is that first step and a willingness to lend a hand.
