Volunteer Spotlight-Megan Rogers

Volunteer Spotlight - Megan Rogers

First Mid is honored to recognize Megan Rogers, Credit Portfolio Team Lead, as our Volunteer Spotlight for August 2024. Megan is committed to supporting local community organizations through volunteerism, consistently demonstrating our core values.

What causes are you passionate about supporting through volunteerism? I am passionate about volunteering for organizations that have an impact on my community. I currently volunteer with Bowl for Kids’ Sake to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters, Special Olympics Family Festival to bring Illinois athletes, families, and volunteers together for music, fun, and games, and the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life to celebrate fellow cancer fighters, celebrate loved ones lost to cancer, and raise funds for cancer research. This past year, I also served as an executive board member for my oldest daughter’s travel softball organization, Mattoon Cobra Softball. Previously, I was an ambassador for the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce.

What would you tell others who are thinking about volunteering? I started volunteering years ago, both because my friends did, and because my manager felt strongly about volunteering. You have to start somewhere! Anything you can do to help local organizations will make a difference, no matter how small you think your impact will be. Not only will your time have an effect for the organization and community, but you will notice a significant impact yourself as well. Volunteering can help you develop new skills, gain new perspectives, and serve to make connections with people who could become lifelong friends. I wouldn’t trade the experiences I’ve had through volunteering for anything.

What are ways that you think others can get involved? There are so many local organizations that need support from volunteers like you. Reach out to your local Chamber of Commerce or your employer if you don’t know where to start. I’m blessed to work for First Mid, who supports and promotes volunteering at the very top. Participate in those small events and find something that makes you happy. Get out there and get involved, I can promise you won’t regret it.

Congratulations, Megan, on being featured as a Volunteer Spotlight! We are honored to showcase the impact you have on your community. First Mid is proud to support your volunteer efforts. To read our other employee spotlights, click here.
