First Mid is honored to recognize Cassie Roberts, Training Officer, as our Volunteer Spotlight for July 2025. Cassie is committed to supporting local community organizations through volunteerism, consistently demonstrating our core values.
What causes are you passionate about supporting through volunteerism? I’m passionate about supporting local causes—both where I work and where I live. Whether it’s volunteering with organizations like United Way of Champaign County, Habitat for Humanity, Eastern Illinois Foodbank, or Crisis Nursery, or serving as a Girl Scout Troop Leader or PTO Treasurer in my hometown of Tolono, IL, I’ve seen firsthand how much of a difference local volunteers can make. When people give their time and energy to the communities they care about, the impact is truly powerful.
What would you tell others who are thinking about volunteering? Start by exploring different opportunities until you find something that truly speaks to you. Try donating just an hour here or there—you might be surprised which causes tug at your heart. And if you’re short on time, that’s okay! Some volunteer work can even be done from home, like fostering animals or helping prep for an event. There’s a way for everyone to get involved, no matter your schedule.
What are ways you think others can get involved? One of the easiest ways to get involved is to bring a friend along—it makes volunteering even more enjoyable. You can also join a volunteer event that First Mid is part of. It’s a great way to give back in the communities where we live, work, and play, all while representing First Mid alongside your coworkers. Volunteering together not only makes a difference, but it also builds connections and creates a fun, rewarding experience.
